Horses, Vitality, and The Sun

In myth, Rhiannon is a Goddess of horses and the Sun. She rose early and took her horses to draw the Sun across the sky. In her stories, her appearance as a bright and glittering shade of gold can be seen as a reference. In addition, a suitor notices that no matter how close he gets she still seemed further away. It didn’t deter him. It increased his efforts or energy and vital force enough that he called out to her, and she seemed to stop.

Goddesses of Horses

Goddesses of Horses are not few! Horses symbolize fertility, wealth, travel, vitality, power, strategy, and endurance.

We also see horses as inspiration and wild spirit.

It is not uncommon to see themes and correspondences through time and cultures with energetic and symbolic similarities in deities. While the energy is transformed through story to fit changes in societal ideologies, our ability to utilize magic to draw forward truth and personal gnosis reveals a great deal more about the facets of the divine feminine.

Other Goddesses to consider: Aine, Epona, Astarte, or Hekate Eurripa!

The Sun and The Heart

Other correspondences that allow a greater breadth and depth of connection to Rhiannon are the Sun and the heart. The Sun is the heartbeat of our solar system, it sits at the center. It directly impacts the flow of energy and vital force on our planet. Rhiannon, being seen as she that guides its movement, can be recognized as the force leading form. In the same way as the Sun, our heart sits at the center of us. Its impact upon the flow of blood and nutrients to the rest of the body ensures our own vitality, but she is the force behind the movement of that vitality. Is that vitality moving down and in or up and out?

As you contemplate such movement of energy, perhaps sitting in a space with your Black Sacred Candle can be helpful to connect with her! Below are some ideas that may foster deeper connections to self and to her:

  • Allow yourself to find a place of quiet and let your breath guide you to slow down. Focusing on the flame, allow images to come through that will allow you to find where your vital force is flowing well or in what ways it may be stuck.
  • You can use writing materials or art supplies to ask her for messages or symbols that will allow the connection to flow. What is important here is that you are allowing it to flow freely without thinking – this is learning to lead at the heart, see at the heart, perceive at the heart before it filters at the brain. This means you will feel it before you know it. Like when the rays of the sun hit your skin and you feel the vital force of it before you feel the warmth. It’s quick, brief, but oh so powerful!
