Web of Fire

The Black Sacred Candle this month is not only to protect your magic and space, but to allow a connection to those you weave with. This Web of Flames is to be shared, creating a beautifully woven circle around us all!

Never created a Black Sacred Candle? We have you covered! Learn how here.

Directions

We begin by creating an incense and we will use it to dress the candle too! Bring all of the herbs out, connect to them, let them come into your awareness. What are they saying? Are they ready to help you weave and connect you to your inherent power of doing so?

Intuitively place the following ingredients in your mortar/pestle, giving them directions:

  • Damiana
  • Lavender
  • Pennyroyal
  • Blue Vervain
  • Juniper
  • Mugwort
  • Agrimony

Begin to mix and grind the ingredients. Once it is to your liking, place to the side. Now we begin to work on the Black Sacred Candle.

Weaving the Candle

  • Take a piece of aluminum foil (large enough to wrap your candle in) and place it on your workspace.
  • Take a piece of non-stick parchment paper (about the same size as your aluminum foil) and place it on top of the aluminum foil.
Trick: Fold the edges of the aluminum foil over the top of the edges of the parchment paper to keep it from rolling!
  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
  • In the middle of your parchment, create a web with your purple marker.  Place your candle on top of it when you are done.
  • Grab your twine. Cut 3 long strands and braid them together. I prefer to chant, I used:

Weavers…past, present, future…

  • Grab your twine and wrap the candle as you see fit.
  • Inscribe the top with a web as well.
  • Using your hands, sprinkle salt in a circle around the candle (clockwise and counterclockwise).
  • Using your oil, pour around and on top of the candle.

  • Sprinkle a bit of the incense around the candle as well.
  • Coat the candle with the incense as you see fit.
  • Wrap the candle inside the parchment and aluminum foil.
  • Place the wrapped candle in the oven.
  • DO NOT LEAVE THE KITCHEN (lesson learned the hard way), turn your candle every 2 minutes (this took me about 12 minutes total).
  • Pour a little salt into your candle holder.
  • Once your candle is heated and slightly mushy, remove from the oven. Carefully open the foil and let it cool.
  • Nestle your completed Black Sacred Candle within the candle holder.

Caution: Please make sure there are no large chunks of plant material as these can be dangerous or ‘pop’ during candle burning. As always, please abide by all fire safety rules.
