The Flame for Bastet is the Black Sacred Candle of this Lunar cycle. This candle creates sacred space for each practitioner while also serving as a beacon to the Goddess Bastet. It is sympathetic magic at its finest, taking from the Hermetic Principle of Correspondence to draw the energy of Bastet to us.
Never made one before? Don’t worry, we have you covered with the basics here!

Ingredients, Supplies, and Directions
The language of correspondences is based on the knowledge of the energy we are trying to call forward. At the base level, we are calling in the spirit or energy of each Element. Then we move forward with the signatures of Bastet.
Symbols used:
- Sistrum
- Ankh
Ingredients and Supplies:
- Frankincense
- Myrrh
- Sage
- Mugwort
- Catnip
- Salt
- Oil of choice
- Mortar/Pestle
- Candle Scribe or toothpick
- Aluminum Foil
- Parchment paper

Directions:
We begin by creating an incense and we will use it to dress the candle too! Bring all of the herbs out, connect to them, let them come into your awareness. What are they saying? Are they ready to help you weave and connect to you to your inherent power of doing so?
Intuitively place the following ingredients in your mortar/pestle, giving them directions:
- Frankincense
- Myrrh
- Sage
- Mugwort
- Catnip
Begin to mix and grind the ingredients. Once it is to your liking, place to the side. Now we begin to work on the Black Sacred Candle.

Crafting the Candle
- Take a piece of aluminum foil (large enough to wrap your candle in) and place it on your workspace.
- Take a piece of non-stick parchment paper (about the same size as your aluminum foil) and place it on top of the aluminum foil.
Trick: Fold the edges of the aluminum foil over the top of the edges of the parchment paper to keep it from rolling! - Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
- Inscribe the candle with symbols or sigils that you prefer.
- Using your oil, pour around and on top of the candle.
- Sprinkle a bit of the incense around the candle as well.
- Coat the candle with the incense as you see fit.

- Wrap the candle inside the parchment and aluminum foil.
- Place the wrapped candle in the oven.
- DO NOT LEAVE THE KITCHEN (lesson learned the hard way), turn your candle every 2 minutes (this took me about 12 minutes total).
- Pour a little salt into your candle holder.
- Once your candle is heated and slightly mushy, remove from the oven. Carefully open the foil and let it cool.
- Nestle your completed Black Sacred Candle within the candle holder.
Caution: Please make sure there are no large chunks of plant material as these can be dangerous or ‘pop’ during candle burning. As always, please abide by all fire safety rules.
Using Your Candle
Light your candle each day, sit with it and focus on the breath. Get yourself grounded, centered, and balanced. Then call to Bastet, seeking her connection and wisdom.
