Daimon and Fortuna

Fate and Fortune: Threads to the Daimon

In my last article, I gave resources on various research as I was building my altar to Fortuna. Spending time with her daily revealed to me that there are subtleties between circumstance and choice with the living. Often, we recognize those subtleties more fully in our work with the dead.

An Ancestral Awakening

One thing born of my connection with Fortuna is this month’s focused workshop on the ancestors. In our claiming of the word Witch, we understand that there is so much more to uncover when working with the spirits of place and our mighty dead.

Of course this is not just blood and bone, nor just those of this lifetime.

It is a recognition of our fortune, the lottery, through time and space, for us to arrive at this very moment. The impact of every moment and circumstance that led to us being incarnated here. Are they circumstance? Does Fortuna decide and allow the Fates to weave the rest? Or is choice forcing Lachesis to re-weave and add in the Daimon of the Witch?

When did it occur?

How far back does it stretch?

The Daimon of the Witch

The etymology of the word we know and use today begins with “da”, the Proto-Indo-European root meaning “to divide”. Personally, this correlates deeply to the moment when somewhere (through time and space) the acceptance of the duality of circumstance and personal agency occurs. We sign the contract. The Daimon, the spirit of the Witch, is then woven into the soul as a separate guiding force, our inner Oracle if you will.

Going Deeper

In this quick audio, I discuss a few prompts that may allow you to connect with your own Daimon:

May your connection to your inner oracle lead you forward into the next season with strength, fortitude, and the journey of a lifetime!
