Hygeia and Health: An Anthology

This is an amazing collection of experiences and information brought to us by numerous folks within the community, I am forever grateful! ~ Kaycee

Hygeia is a Goddess of health, cleanliness, and hygiene from the Greek lineage. Often depicted with a serpent and a cup, the symbolism ties together the art of healing, transforming, and gaining wisdom. In Dark Goddess Collective we have worked with Hygeia to renew through a healing bath, a Full Moon with Rayne, and exploring her as she appeared to each of us!

A Call to Hygeia on the Full Moon

“Hygeia she of health wellness and remedy
Daughter of the healing paths
Guide us this Full Moon to our individual and collective paths
Light up the spaces of release
And the ones that are perhaps hidden just ahead
She who offers profound insight and wisdom to that which provides balance and wholeness
I call you Hygeia Here with us
During this Full Moon rite
As we honor you and each other
And so it is” ~ Kaycee

Healing With Hygeia by Aikat

Thank you shout out to Aikaterine Kleisoteira for sharing this amazing experience with us all!

What a wild few months it has been, or years?!

Hygeia has us healing all things
Physically and Mentally
Inside the household, oftentimes with the people we live with
Outside the household, get outside and go into the yard
She screams
Go Touch The Earth

What I thought I was doing was just walking in spirals but moving forward
Wobbling spirals are what I felt
The best description is the way a Hurricane wobbles across the Gulf
I feel like a hot mess unorganized hurricane

But Kaycee is always lurking
Watching us
Listening to us
I feel like a whiny bitch sometimes
She lurks for our benefit of course
And as always helped me put the pieces together
I was able to see that this was the work of Hygeia

Lately, the only thing I seem to accomplish is being in the yard
Laying on a yoga mat
Doing silly but fun exercises
I just stand there and wave my arms and move my body
To the beat of the music
Whatever comes up
Whatever I feel
I am releasing and transmuting energy
The energy of Mother Earth

I went down a rabbit hole of Geosentience
Being sensitive to Earth’s weather, Earth’s pain
The more I read, the more I was like, this is me, this is many of us
We are all Empaths to one degree or another
Ever cried when you saw trees being cut down?!
We are Empaths of EARTH herself
When she feels pain, we feel pain
Solar Flares, Eclipses, Moon Phases, Astrological Transits, Earthquakes, Fire, Hurricanes, Tornadoes

And we know she is in a lot of pain these days
As I was diving deeper into Geosentience, I had a vision
It was Mother Earth with a physical face of eyes, nose, and mouth
Her tears flowed from her eyes as solar flares
Her pain and anger were expressed through natural disaster

I just sat there and cried with my hands pushed into the grass of my front lawn
This is what you may be feeling
I know it is for me
I can tell she is responding to something, almost like she is guiding us
She needs us to feel her pain

When a natural disaster takes place frequencies bounce all over
The geomagnetic field goes bonkers
Our chakras spin in the opposite direction
There is a raised sensitivity giving us a type of psychic ability

Statistics show that during Solar Flares there is an increase in mental health issues, cardiovascular events, diabetes spikes, and seizures become more frequent
Similar to the ER nurses discussing the influx of people during a full moon
We feel it physically, emotionally, energetically and spiritually
I bet this is how our Ancestors could tell when a natural disaster was about to hit
Just like the animals do

This helps us see Earth as a living and breathing organism

Hygeia, Healing the Heart, and Beltane by Rayne

Let’s give some extra love to Rayne McLoughlin for the vulnerability and authenticity of sharing with us all!

I have been working with Hygeia to heal in many ways. It’s been a mind, body, and soul kind of journey for sure. On May Day, the traditional day that many celebrate Beltane, I celebrated (though I often celebrate on Lunar Beltane).

I normally love to go out, be in nature, and socialize with others, especially if I have a romantic partner. This celebration, for me, has always brought romantic partner feelings to my core. If I am being really honest, I tend to stay in private and very intimate places with my partner on this day.

This year, I find myself single. I find myself happy to be out of the relationship that I was in. I know that I made good choices for myself, but the grief from the loss of the relationship is still VERY present at times. This pain of grief comes to me when I so yearn to feel differently, so as a sovereign Witch I know exactly what I must do!

What do we do when we can’t go frolic naked in the forest and mingle with other beautiful naked people?

WE MAKE HEAL YOUR HEART TEA and a Mini May Pole wrapped with self-loving intentions.

I stood at my herbs and just asked what herbs my body needed to heal my mind, body, and soul. As I sat with my feeling of grief this is what came through. I made the tea and then looked up the monographs in my book, Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs by Scott Cunningham, and found they are ruled by fire, air, and also Jupiter and Mars. This tea may not be for you, but it is helping me.

The Tea:

  • Damiana- Sexual healing
  • Star Anise- Connection
  • Agrimony-Protection and Hex breaking
  • Lavender- Love and Communication
  • Nettle- Calms Grief and Nerves
  • Red Clover- Brings in the love of choice.

I suggest writing out your intentions with these herbs (monographs).

Love,
Rayne

Reimagining Remedies with Hygeia

Hygeia, meaning Health, was a title given to the milk-giving breasts of Mother Rhea Coronis at Titane according to Walker (1983), long before the Hellenic reconstruction. A Supreme Goddess, mother of Asclepius, Rhea was the giver and taker of life following the same cycle of reaping and sowing of the Earth itself. Looking at Hygeia’s parentage, Rhea would be considered her grandmother, and her mother, Peitho, was a daughter of Aphrodite and Hermes (Monaghan, 2014). When I think of the connections here, it is apparent that love and health are intertwined.

The etymology of Hygeia, relating to hygiene and cleanliness (and thus health), does not often take into consideration what it meant in ancient Greek. It meant wholeness and a type of harmony in all aspects of life. This led to longer living with focus on preventative measures to keep “wholeness”, and it wasn’t until much later that “health” was turned from wholeness to hygiene (Science Museum Group).

Her symbols, the serpent (a throwback to her father Asclepius perhaps) and the basin conjure deeper meanings of health and wholeness, of transformation of not just the body, but the totality of a human and the experiences we have. In keeping with wholeness as health, the original understanding of health in Greek Medicine, we can see how the serpent shedding its skin allows growth, new opportunities, and renewal. The waters of the basin or chalice have multiple meanings here too. The serpent is sometimes pictured drinking from it and can be seen as a rejuvenation and rebirthing process.

All of which are depicted as held within the arms of Hygeia.

When I think of health, it has been deeply transformative with the Goddess Hygeia. There is something to the idea of self-love and the devotion we have to our wholeness. The vast experiences that are upon the spectrum of life from disharmony and discord to euphoric excessiveness and epic stagnation, wherein the balance between the two holds the sacred tension for living our best lives. Love can translate into devotion and what I find to be the best preventative medicine leading to wholeness is the community awakening to an understanding of interdependence.

Creating belongingness and support in all facets of our lives has also proven to have a positive impact on health outcomes.

When we reimagine remedies and health, in what ways are we expanding and rippling outward to each other so we can grow, shed the old skin, and renew?

A Candle & A Key,
Kaycee
