Anthology to Artemis

Wrapping up with the anthology of our amazing time with Artemis in Dark Goddess Collective is not easy. The opportunities to connect, find her, and grow to know her better are always present if we remain open. I am grateful for how she appeared to each of us, shining the reflection to us that we needed, and to everyone who chose to collaborate on this anthology in honor of her.

Artemis and Her Connection to Water by Hollie

Artemis is associated with hunting, wilderness, and childbirth, but she also has connections to water. Water in many forms plays a role in her myths.

Artemis had many nymphs, especially water nymphs. These water nymphs are known as naiads. These naiads live in rivers, streams, and freshwater. One of the most common images of Artemis is her bathing in rivers and streams with her nymphs. These scenes show her connection to natural waters.

Artemis is known to protect these water nymphs fiercely. Any threat to the nymphs, or their waters, and Artemis would jump to protect them.

Sacred Waters

Many of Artemis’ rituals involve water, including purification, blessings, and healing. Holy wells and springs under her guardianship were safe havens for those seeking refuge. Here are a few myths that further symbolize Artemis’ nurturing and protective spirit:

  • The sacred springs at Brauron where Apollo, Artemis’ brother, sent his daughter for her healing. Artemis was believed to have blessed these waters with healing properties. People would visit them to seek cures. Artemis’ blessings made these waters a source of health.
  • The spring at Amnisos in Crete. where Artemis was often worshipped, was considered a sacred spring. People would visit this spring to seek blessings, cures, and overall better health.
  • The holy well in Miletus is another source of water Artemis is connected to. This well was believed to have miraculous properties, for those seeking health and spiritual favors/favors from the divine.

Deeper into the Reflection

Just as Kaycee found the reflection of Artemis and inspired us all to do the same, the element of water plays a significant role throughout Artemis’s myths. The water she bathes in, protects, and blesses is seen as a divine element, mirroring her reflection.

You never know what Artemis may be showing you in the reflection of the sacred waters. If you want to dive deeper, feeling into Artemis and her reflection in the water, you can create a reflection bottle!

 You will need:

  • a bottle with a lid
  • natural water source
  • a few pieces of nature from around the water source
  • some reflective stones and/or reflective foil
  • your Black Sacred Candle

Take your supplies and go to a natural water source such as a spring, river, creek, or the ocean. Ask Artemis to bless the water you will collect in your bottle.  Whatever source you choose, look around and see what small pieces of nature want to be included..  If you become quiet, you may hear them ask to guide you and be included.

Once you have placed what’s called to you in the bottle of natural water, place clear reflective stones and/or small cut-up pieces of reflective foil in the bottle.  Seal your bottle.  You can sit for a while near your natural water source.  Light your candle and seal the lid further with the hot wax.

When it’s dried get comfortable and gaze into the bottle. You can shake the bottle up as you begin to gaze and ask Artemis what reflection she wants to show you.

Which part of you does she want you to clearly see?

Personal Experiences

Lynne

Seeing the rare treat of screech owl branchlings and the more common sight of a doe while I was camping with family during Memorial Day weekend is a big way that Artemis has shown up for me recently. Owls are so often hunted or harmed by people simply viewing them, that having them nest right next to our campsite seemed like a very special blessing from all the birds. Seeing the deer didn’t feel quite as special in comparison, but the fact that only my niece and I got to see it dart away from our group who was trailing behind made it feel like we were blessed with this secret vision.

We saw these wildlife neighbors on Saturday, May 26th, just before noon while the Moon was leaving the sign of Sagittarius. That, coupled with Artemis being a twin and my being a Gemini, leaves me feeling even more kinship with her. We found four large bird feathers and I will hang them from my Artemis cord (attached to a pair of antlers) to charge them up with her energy.

Artemis in the swamp was amazing! Showing up as a Warbler (yellow bird) that followed me around was really awesome and fun. I found an arrowhead-shaped stone for my arrow. Her leaving me with the thoughts of “thinking on purpose” has me in a deep rabbit hole. I also enjoyed my time with Artemis while foraging Magnus for some amazing Wands! I love her child-like wonder of getting lost in thought while in nature.

I also had a very close and amazing experience with two Does in the woods yesterday. I was out with my friend walking the dogs and it was so peaceful. I had taken several opportunities to just stand, breathe, ground, and feel the magic. Then my friend spotted a Roe Deer!

I stopped to Hail Artemis then saw there were two of them. They were about 50 feet away from us, they returned our gaze, and I connected with them. Their magic was so pure and gentle that it brought tears. 🥹The dogs, incredibly, both laid down while I was connected to them. When we carried on with our walk they walked with us, quietly watching us, and they were with us for quite some distance.

It was an absolutely beautiful and deeply magical experience.

A Full Moon with Artemis

Our Full Moon was fitting because it was a Full Moon in Sagittarius, also a far shooter! During our Full Moon Live with Rayne, there was a meditation that took us so far into connecting that I felt what I perceived to be the tension at the moment precisely before we are launched forward collectively. Below are more amazing things from our Full Moon experience.

A Ritual Incense and Foot Soak by Rayne

This Full Moon was filled with tons of insight and energy. I found myself spiraling in moments with anxiety and doubt, but also had moments of grace and divinity throughout the day and nighttime. I was aware that the wildlife and animals around me were going particularly haywire as well.

For myself, I will be drinking plenty of water and good calming tea. I will be eating clean and healthy foods to nourish my body. I will sleep when I want to sleep. I will go outside and soak up nature into my bones and connect with all there is and just listen. I will be taking a ritual bath as well because I feel like there are just some layers that need to soak and GO!

I would like to invite you to do any and all of the same with me. I made an amazing incense for our ritual that I burned to connect us to Artemis and the Dryads and I will be adding it to my bath with an added ingredient in honor of this Full Moon energy.

Ingredients:

  • Vervain: To Aid in Sleep, Rest, Rejuvenation, Relaxation, Dreamtime Messages, Calm, and Healing.
  • Pine: Potency, Potential, Processing, Protection, Projection, Focus, Youth, Agility, Focus, Fertility, and Attainment.
  • Mugwort: Astral travel, Dreamscape manifestation, Prophetic Dreams and Ability Enhancement, Honorning Artemis, and Extracting all Parasites and Toxins from the Body.
  • Wormwood: Invoking Artemis, Underworld Travel, Psychic Ability Enhancement, Protection, and will Expel Toxicity.

The below is what I added for the bath or foot soak:

  • Epsom salt: For a bath I add about a cup. for a foot soak, I add about 1/4 cup.
  • Rose Quartz Chips: One Tablespoon.

I hope you enjoy this day and take time for yourself to process all that is coming into your awareness and consciousness. Journal, rest, sleep and love on you. YOU DO IT THE BEST!

May your connection and reflection of Artemis grow stronger each season!
